925 Silver Caravaca Cross - Handcrafted in Italy
Recognizable by its unique double-bar silhouette, the Caravaca Cross belongs to those Christian symbols whose form carries within it centuries of history, devotion, and tradition.
This particularly elaborate interpretation is handcrafted in Italy by a specialist jeweler, in solid 925 silver.
The Christ on the cross occupies the center of the composition, while two angels are positioned at its base, recalling the miraculous tradition associated with the Vera Cruz de Caravaca.
According to the account passed down since the Middle Ages, in 1232, a captive Christian priest, Ginés Pérez Chirinos, was reportedly invited to celebrate Mass before the Muslim ruler Abu-Zeit.
Noticing the absence of a cross on the altar, he reportedly interrupted the celebration; two angels then appeared carrying the Vera Cruz, an event to which tradition attributes the conversion of the ruler and several of his companions.
Caravaca and the Templars
The history of Caravaca then intersected with that of the Order of the Temple. Located in a strategic border region of the Kingdom of Murcia, its fortress was entrusted to the Templars in the 13th century. Their presence in Caravaca is attested by medieval documents and will remain closely associated with the defense of the territory and the guarding of the Vera Cruz.
Thus, faith, history, and legend meet around this cross: the Christian tradition of Caravaca, the memory of its relic, and the military and spiritual history of a land long located on the borders of kingdoms.
With its height of 4.3 cm, including the bail, this version maintains a striking presence without becoming oversized. The relief work of the silver gives it an almost sculptural depth, particularly visible on the Christ, the angels, and the contours of the double cross.
